How to: Improving your work environment

Spring has sprung! With the change in season we’d like to share a few of our tips to help improve your workplace for you and your team.

At GCBizHub we focus on these 5 key areas when building a vibrant, happy, and healthy workplace:

Lighting

Access to natural lighting makes all the difference. Our members say they feel more energised and motivated when working by our windows. [1]. In your home office, try shifting office furniture around so that desks are closer to sun light, or upgrade your interior lighting to look as natural as possible.

Colour

When designing an office, colour should be a major consideration as it can strongly affect people’s emotions. For instance, according to 2011 study “…a blue office is ideal for someone who must focus and concentrate on numbers, green is a great choice for a management office as it has a balancing effect, and yellow is suitable for sales offices.” [1].

Plant life

An office environment can feel rather dull and stale without incorporating some form of natural plant life. Try adding fresh flowers and small plants as office decorations. Examples of indoor office plants include: Jade Plant, Peace Lily, Chinese Evergreen, Parlor Palm, and Aloe Plant. [2]

Ergonomic furniture

Ergonomist, Alan Hedge claims, “Staying in the same position and using the same muscles for hours at a time is not good for your back or neck.” [3]. At GCBizHub, we recommend having ergonomic chairs and height adjustable desks. We also recommend taking regular short breaks throughout the day to escape the computer and rest your eyes.

Noise reduction

Noise within the workplace is unavoidable. Whether it comes from printers, telephones, or people, it has been shown to impact the productivity levels of some workers. Mistakes occurring within the workplace are greatly reduced when noise disruptions are removed. [1]. At GCBizHub we pride ourselves in being a quiet, productive work environment. We also offer our members the option of using our noise cancelling headphones during their visit.
